Exchange of Gunfire Leaves Two Deputies Injured and Suspect Dead in Minnetonka

UNITED STATES (trfnews.i234.me) – In a tense altercation, two Hennepin County sheriff’s deputies were injured and a suspect was killed during a gunfire exchange in Minnetonka on Wednesday morning.

The incident, occurring shortly before 11:20 a.m., unfolded as law enforcement officers attempted to serve a warrant in the Minneapolis suburb. Sheriff Dawanna Witt disclosed in a press conference that one deputy sustained “very serious” injuries, necessitating hospitalization, while the other deputy was treated on-site and later released.

Authorities identified the deceased as the suspect involved in the exchange of gunfire, although investigations are ongoing to confirm if the individual was the subject of the felony warrant. Drew Evans, superintendent of the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension leading the probe, stated that the suspect initiated the gunfire, prompting the deputies to respond in defense.

This incident amplifies concerns over rising attacks on law enforcement in Minnesota, highlighted by Witt, who emphasized the dedication of first responders to community safety.

Several details, including the identities of the injured deputies and the purpose of the warrant, remain undisclosed.

Law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area surrounding the scene, which remained active for several hours following the incident. Despite the ongoing investigation, authorities assured that there was no immediate threat to the public.

Assistance in the investigation was provided by the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, along with local police departments.
