Damaged Car Found on Rural Road

Deputies responded around 7:41 p.m. to East Wymer Lake Road near Good Oak Loop.

A red Mercury Grand Marquis was found damaged after an apparent rollover.

The windows were broken, and the windshield was cracked.

The roof also had a large dent.

Tire marks suggested the vehicle had been fishtailing before leaving the road.

No one was inside the car when deputies arrived.

Several open alcoholic beverage cans were found nearby, according to the criminal complaint.

Driver Initially Denied Involvement

Investigators later went to a nearby home connected to the vehicle.

Jacobs first denied driving the car, according to the complaint.

He reportedly suggested someone had stolen it.

A woman at the home later identified Jacobs as the driver.

She said Jacobs had called her after the crash.

Jacobs then changed his account, according to court records.

He admitted driving with his brother, identified in the complaint as C.J.

Jacobs said they were drifting and driving aggressively on dirt roads.

The vehicle then entered the ditch and rolled.

Passenger Suffered Spinal Fracture

C.J. was taken to Perham Health after the crash.

Investigators later learned he had suffered a C7 spinal fracture.

A preliminary breath test showed a 0.16 alcohol concentration, according to the complaint.

Jacobs was arrested and taken to Perham Health for a blood draw.

A judge approved a search warrant for the blood sample.

The sample was collected at 11:31 p.m.

Jacobs was then booked into the Otter Tail County Detention Facility.
