GRAND FORKS, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – Cazmere G. Haskins, a 17-year-old from Grand Forks, faced a daunting $500,000 cash or surety bond during his initial appearance in adult criminal court on Monday, March 18.

Haskins stands accused of Class AA felony murder, a charge carrying a maximum penalty of life imprisonment without parole. The alleged incident involved the intentional killing of a 24-year-old man under circumstances demonstrating extreme indifference.

During the court proceedings, Grand Forks County public defender David Neil Ogren, representing Haskins temporarily, appealed for a reduced bond of $250,000, citing the financial constraints of Haskins’ family. However, Judge Jason McCarthy denied the request, expressing concerns about Haskins’ potential flight risk given the severity of the charges.

The crime, which took place around 3 a.m. on March 7 in a parking lot on 36th Avenue South, resulted in the tragic death of Anfernee Economy due to an apparent stab wound to the heart. Video evidence presented in court allegedly depicted Haskins wielding a knife, corroborating witness testimonies regarding plans for a confrontation between Haskins and Economy.

Despite Haskins’ claim of self-defense, law enforcement recovered the knife from his residence, still bearing traces of blood. The case, initially processed in juvenile court, was transferred to adult criminal court, with Haskins’ preliminary hearing and arraignment scheduled for April 29.

The community awaits further developments as the judicial process unfolds.

  1. there was more social media ,, about a girlfriend? who may have yelled stab him,,,stab him? and some other stories going around. Its sad and sickening and I hope publicly investigated. Was it recorded for "bragging rights?" or they thought it was just a fight that would not be big,,? but then again if you are involved with a death,,taking the killing weapon home and in your bedroom? Innocent till proven guilty right?

  2. There wasn’t no self defense in that with how many witnesses and how many people didn’t try to stop it . Those other kids need to be punished, especially the idiots who are STILL spreading this video!! DO BETTER GRAND FORKS AND JUSTICE SYSTEM!!
