GRAND FORKS, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – In a sobering turn of events, Cazmere Haskins, the Grand Forks teen accused of murder, celebrated his 18th birthday this week under far from ideal circumstances. Haskins, who was previously held in juvenile detention, was transferred to the Grand Forks County Correctional Facility.

Just weeks ago, Haskins was arrested and charged with felony murder at the age of 17, being charged as an adult from the outset. The charges stem from a tragic incident outside an apartment building on 1751 36th Ave. S. in Grand Forks on Thursday, March 7th.

According to court documents, a confrontation over “relationship issues” involving 11 individuals escalated, resulting in the fatal stabbing of 24-year-old Anfernee Economy. Video evidence purportedly shows Haskins brandishing a knife at the onset of the altercation. Additionally, Haskins allegedly shared images of the knife with what appeared to be blood on it in a chat thread.

During questioning, Haskins confessed to stabbing Economy once in the chest with a hunting knife, claiming self-defense. A subsequent search of Haskins’ bedroom yielded the weapon in question.

At a hearing on March 18, a judge set Haskins’ bond at $500,000, and his preliminary hearing is slated for April 29.

As of this report, no other individuals involved in the altercation have been charged in connection with the incident.
