Waubun Man Gets Jail, Probation After 90 MPH Chase
White Earth (trfnews.i234.me) — Dustin Alan Jackson, 32, of rural Waubun, has been sentenced for felony fleeing a peace officer.
The sentence was issued August 5 in Becker County District Court.
Judge Gretchen Thilmony sentenced Jackson to 10 months in prison at St. Cloud.
The prison term was stayed for three years.
Jackson was ordered to serve 112 days in the Becker County Jail.
He was also fined $50 and assessed $160 in court fees.
Chase Reached About 90 MPH
The case began shortly after 1 a.m. on April 15 in White Earth village.
Court records say a Becker County deputy knew Jackson had an active felony warrant.
The deputy saw Jackson driving and activated emergency lights to make a traffic stop.
Jackson did not stop, according to the criminal complaint.
Instead, he accelerated and reached speeds of about 90 mph.
Court records say Jackson also drove into the opposing traffic lane.
He then ran a stop sign while the deputy continued the pursuit.
The chase continued until Jackson reached the area of his driveway.
PIT Maneuver Ends Pursuit
The deputy then used a PIT maneuver against Jackson’s vehicle.
The maneuver caused the vehicle to leave the roadway and stop in brush.
Jackson then left the vehicle and ran toward his residence.
The deputy followed Jackson on foot and repeatedly ordered him to stop.
Court records say a Taser was then used before Jackson was arrested.
Jackson later spoke with the deputy about why he fled.
He said he did not want to go to jail and was scared.
Minnesota law defines fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle.
The law includes refusing to stop after an officer gives a signal.
Three Years of Supervised Probation
Jackson’s conviction resulted in a stayed prison sentence and county jail time.
The court also placed Jackson on supervised probation for three years.
Jackson was ordered not to drink alcohol or use illegal drugs.
He must complete a comprehensive assessment and follow all recommendations.
Jackson must also complete cognitive skills training.
The court ordered him to complete a mental health evaluation.
He must follow recommendations from those programs, including required aftercare.
