Prior Lake Man Sentenced in Audubon Assault Case
Audubon (trfnews.i234.me) — Shawn Robert Tucker, 24, of Prior Lake, has been sentenced for felony domestic assault by strangulation.
The sentence was handed down in Becker County District Court on August 4.
Tucker received a stayed prison sentence and three years of supervised probation.
Case Began With 911 Call
The case began with a 911 call from an Audubon residence on May 14.
A woman told dispatchers she was pregnant and had been choked by Tucker.
Law enforcement responded to the home and spoke with people who were present.
Court records say Tucker grabbed the woman by the neck during the incident.
The woman reported that the contact made it difficult for her to breathe.
A teenage boy was also present during the reported assault.
Court records say the teenager physically stepped in to stop the assault.
The woman later moved into the kitchen after the first confrontation ended.
Authorities said Tucker followed her and grabbed her by the hair.
The woman threw a bowl of soup over her shoulder to make him stop.
Injuries Documented After Incident
Authorities reported red marks on the woman’s chest and chin.
They also documented a bruise on the upper part of her left arm.
The woman also reported earlier domestic abuse incidents during April.
She showed investigators photographs taken after those alleged incidents.
Court records said the photographs showed badly swollen black eyes.
Tucker later spoke with law enforcement about the May incident.
According to the complaint, he admitted grabbing the woman’s neck and hair.
Minnesota’s domestic assault by strangulation law classifies the offense as a felony.
Tucker Receives Stayed Prison Sentence
Judge Gretchen Thilmony sentenced Tucker to 12 months in prison.
The prison sentence was stayed for three years.
Tucker was ordered to serve 48 days in jail.
He received credit for all 48 days already served.
The court also imposed a $300 fine and $85 in court fees.
Tucker was placed on supervised probation for three years.
He was ordered to avoid alcohol and illegal drugs.
Tucker must complete a comprehensive assessment and follow all recommendations.
He must also complete cognitive skills training and a mental health evaluation.
Any recommended treatment and aftercare must also be completed.
