Suspect in Custody After Exchange of Gunfire with Grand Forks Police

GRAND FORKS, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – In a tense incident on Friday afternoon, the Grand Forks Regional SWAT team was called to the scene after shots were fired during the execution of a high-risk warrant. At approximately 2:15 p.m., officers attempted to serve the warrant in the 3300 block of Primrose Drive.

Upon making contact with the suspect near his vehicle, the situation escalated rapidly as the suspect opened fire on the officers. In response, officers returned fire, resulting in a brief exchange of gunfire. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the altercation.

The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Jeffrey Simpson Jr. of Grand Forks, was apprehended shortly after fleeing a short distance on foot. He surrendered without further incident and is now in custody.

The investigation into the incident has been transferred to the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigations due to its nature. The Grand Forks Police Department extends its appreciation to all emergency services agencies involved in managing the situation.
