Pennington County (trfnews.i234.me) – A Grand Forks couple has been charged in a rental scam that duped a Minnesota man out of hundreds via Facebook Marketplace. On Feb. 16, law enforcement received a report that Tony Lewis Schlosser, 38, and Miranda Lee Schlosser, 41, posed as landlords under the alias “Ember Moon” and tricked the victim into sending $550 through Venmo for an apartment in Grand Forks.

The victim believed he was communicating with a woman and her brother-in-law. The day after the report was filed, the woman blocked him on Facebook. Subpoenas issued to tech and financial companies linked Tony to the IP address, phone number, and Facebook account used in the fraud. Miranda’s Social Security number was also connected to the Venmo account.

The couple is now charged with aiding and abetting theft by false representation.
