Ogema Man Faces Felony Registration Violation

Ogema (trfnews.i234.me) — Shai Charles Baity faces a felony charge for allegedly failing to meet registration requirements.

Prosecutors say Baity failed to register a new primary address after leaving the Becker County Jail.

The alleged violation began after his release on July 18, 2026.

Baity was later arrested in rural Ogema on August 27, according to the criminal complaint.

Registration Requirement Cited

The complaint says Baity is required to register as a predatory offender under Minnesota law.

That requirement stems from a prior first-degree criminal sexual conduct conviction.

Prosecutors say Baity previously signed registration paperwork acknowledging his duty to keep information current.

The paperwork also addressed requirements for people without a primary address.

According to the complaint, those registrants must report certain address changes to law enforcement within 24 hours.

Baity was released from the Becker County Jail on July 18.

Investigators later reviewed Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension registration records.

The review occurred on August 10, according to the complaint.

Records still listed the Becker County Jail as Baity’s primary registered address.

Prosecutors allege Baity had not registered another primary address after leaving custody.

The complaint says he remained unregistered at a new address through his later arrest.

Authorities arrested Baity on August 27 during a separate trespassing incident in rural Ogema.

He was taken back into custody, according to court records.

Investigators then alleged he had never updated his registered primary address after his July release.

The charging document contains slightly different ending dates for the alleged violation.

The formal count lists July 19 through August 25.

The charge description and probable-cause section reference conduct continuing through August 27.

The law requires covered offenders to provide and update registration information.

A knowing violation can carry up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

The statute generally provides a minimum prison term of one year and one day.
