Moorhead Man Charged in $6,500 Equipment Theft
Moorhead (trfnews.i234.me) — A Moorhead man faces a felony theft charge involving concrete equipment.
Court records identify the defendant as Brent Robert Stalboerger. The complaint says the equipment was worth about $6,500.
The items reportedly belonged to Modern Concrete in Moorhead. Prosecutors say Stalboerger borrowed them but failed to return them.
Charge Filed in Clay County
Prosecutors charged Stalboerger with felony theft under Minnesota law. The complaint cites Minnesota Statute 609.52.
The law covers taking or keeping movable property without the owner’s consent. The complaint alleges an intent to permanently deprive the owner.
The charge carries a possible sentence of up to 10 years. It also carries a possible fine of $20,000.
Those are the maximum penalties allowed by law. Any sentence would depend on the court and the case’s outcome.
Equipment Borrowed Under Verbal Agreement
According to the complaint, Stalboerger picked up concrete pouring items on September 17, 2025.
A Modern Concrete co-owner said the exchange followed a verbal loan agreement. The owners recalled a loan period of two weeks or one month.
The complaint says the equipment included several items used for concrete work. Many items had reportedly belonged to Modern Concrete since 2022.
The business reportedly received some equipment from another company. Modern Concrete also purchased the remaining items directly.
Ownership Dispute Alleged
The next day, a co-owner said Stalboerger claimed an ownership interest. He allegedly said he would not return the equipment.
The complaint says investigators found no stated basis for that ownership claim. Authorities later contacted Stalboerger about the missing property.
He reportedly said he needed to handle several matters first. The filing says he gave no further explanation.
The alleged offense occurred between September 17 and October 18, 2025. The owners reported the matter on December 5, 2025.
The complaint states the equipment remained missing when charges were filed. No court ruling has determined ownership of the items.
Case Remains Pending
The case was filed in Clay County District Court. The court file number is 14-CR-26-2012.
The charge is an allegation and does not prove guilt. Stalboerger is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Public case information may be available through the Minnesota Judicial Branch records portal.
Some records may require an account or courthouse access. The complaint does not list a final case outcome.
