GRAND FORKS (trfnews.i234.me) — Grand Forks Public Schools says it is working with the Grand Forks Police Department after rumors spread about a possible threat tied to Valley Middle School.
School leaders said the concern came from a Snapchat message. District staff told families there is no evidence of a credible threat. Even so, the school added security as a safety step.
District shares update with families
Principal Tad Schye told families the matter is being taken seriously. He said the case remains under active investigation with police.
Schye said student and staff safety remains the top priority. He also thanked families and community members who shared concerns and information.
In a later update, Schye and Associate Principal Amber Basting said there was no new verified information. They said more claims were still circulating, but those claims remained rumors.
No credible threat reported
The district said investigators have not confirmed a credible threat at this time. Officials still urged the public to share verified information with police.
Families with questions were asked to contact the school office. The district said it will continue working closely with law enforcement as the review continues.
School officials also asked the public to be careful with unverified online claims. Rumors can spread fast and cause fear for families and students.
Anyone with verified information is asked to contact Grand Forks Public Schools or the Grand Forks Police Department.
