Fire Erupts at Grand Forks Potato Processing Plant Early Tuesday Morning

GRAND FORKS, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – Grand Forks firefighters responded to an early Tuesday morning fire at a potato processing plant on the north side of town. Acting Battalion Chief Jo Amit reported the incident occurred around 2:59 a.m. Fire crews were dispatched to the Red River potato plant at 2250 Mil Road, where upon arrival, they observed heavy smoke emanating from the front of the structure.

Fortunately, all employees had evacuated before the fire personnel arrived.

Firefighters entered the building with attack lines and discovered a product ablaze inside a large dehydrator. They promptly extinguished the fire and relocated the affected product to a safe area, resulting in minimal equipment damage.

The Grand Forks Fire Department deployed five engines, one truck, one command vehicle, and 19 personnel to tackle the situation.

Fortunately, there were no injuries among the fire service personnel.

The fire department received assistance from the Grand Forks Police Department, Altru Ambulance, and the staff of Red River potato plant.
