MOOSE LAKE, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – Brent Keranen, 21, from Pengilly, faces severe charges following a tragic incident in Moose Lake. Charged with criminal vehicular manslaughter, Keranen allegedly struck and killed a pedestrian on Highway 73 near Jon Brown Drive around 2 p.m. last Thursday.

According to court documents, Keranen claimed he was “jamming out” to a radio song, playing air guitar, when his vehicle’s airbags suddenly deployed. He admitted to authorities that he didn’t realize he had hit someone until afterward.

Law enforcement conducted sobriety tests, revealing Keranen’s blood alcohol concentration was .06, below the legal limit. Keranen confessed to drinking late with friends the night before.

Furthermore, Keranen admitted to falling asleep while driving hours earlier, colliding with a state trooper’s squad car. Allegedly, his preliminary breath test after that incident was .066, and he received a citation.

Keranen also disclosed setting his cruise control to 52 mph in a 40 mph zone. If convicted, he could face up to a decade behind bars.

This tragedy underscores the dangers of distracted and impaired driving, emphasizing the need for vigilance and responsibility on the road.
