Becker County (trfnews.i234.me) Tommy Giovanni Corrales, 18, of Dilworth, has been charged after authorities said he entered Detroit Lakes High School with a group that was not allowed inside.
According to a criminal complaint, the case was filed in Becker County District Court, 7th Judicial District. Corrales is charged with trespass on school property and trespass on school property with a group of three or more people.
What the complaint says
Authorities said school staff reported unknown people inside the building on May 12, 2025. The report came shortly after 11:20 a.m.
The complaint says five people went into Detroit Lakes High School. A sixth person stayed with a white Chevrolet Cruze outside. The vehicle reportedly had a temporary dealer plate.
Security video showed the group entered the school around 11:06 a.m. The complaint says they did not check in as visitors. Staff later stopped them in the classroom wing.
School staff asked where they were going. The group reportedly said they were heading to class. But they could not name a teacher. The complaint says they then ran out of the school.
How investigators identified the suspect
After reviewing video, authorities shared images with nearby schools and police agencies. On May 15, 2025, a principal from Moorhead High School and Career Academy identified Corrales, according to the complaint.
The complaint says three other people were also identified. This story focuses on Corrales because he is named in the court filing provided.
Charges and possible penalties
Corrales faces one gross misdemeanor count under Minnesota Statute 609.605. That count carries a maximum penalty of 364 days in jail, a $3,000 fine, or both.
He also faces one misdemeanor count of trespass on school property. That count carries a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail, a $1,000 fine, or both.
Detroit Lakes High School is part of the Detroit Lakes Public Schools system. Court records show the alleged incident happened in Becker County.
All charges are allegations. Corrales is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
