Detroit Lakes E-Bike Theft Charge Filed Against Jackson

Erving Ramond Jackson is charged in Becker County District Court with theft of movable property without consent.

E-Bike Reported Missing From McDonald’s

Court records say an e-bike was reported missing from outside a McDonald’s restaurant in Detroit Lakes.

The owner told police the bike had been left near bushes while he was working.

The bike was described as an Eoeotwo e-bike with a bent pedal.

Investigators found a new bike of that model listed online for $629, according to the complaint.

Police reviewed video from the area after receiving the theft report.

The complaint alleges the video showed Jackson pushing what appeared to be the stolen e-bike.

Police later saw Jackson riding a bicycle on August 5.

Investigators questioned Jackson about the missing e-bike.

According to the complaint, Jackson said the bike was at a Detroit Lakes residence.

Jackson agreed to retrieve the bike and turn it over to police.

The complaint says Jackson told investigators he did not know the bike was stolen.

He reportedly said the bike had been left behind bushes.

Police later received the e-bike from Jackson.

The bike was returned to the person who reported it stolen.

The owner identified it as the same e-bike taken from outside the restaurant, court records state.

Jackson faces one count of theft under Minnesota Statute 609.52.

The complaint lists the charge as a gross misdemeanor.

The maximum sentence is 364 days in jail, a $3,000 fine, or both.

Minnesota law places theft between $500 and $1,000 within that penalty range.

The complaint also lists two prior theft convictions from Dakota County.

One gross misdemeanor theft judgment was entered on November 5, 2024.

A misdemeanor theft judgment was entered on March 15, 2024.
