Fargo Jail Drug Smuggling Case Brings 18-Month Term
Fargo, North Dakota (trfnews.i234.me) — A South Dakota woman has been sentenced in a Cass County Jail drug-smuggling case.
Daria Renville, of Sisseton, pleaded guilty September 28 to two felony charges.
One charge involved conspiracy to deliver drugs inside a correctional facility.
That offense is listed as a Class A felony.
Renville also pleaded guilty to second-offense possession of a Schedule III narcotic drug.
That offense is a Class C felony.
Renville Ordered to Serve 18 Months
Cass County District Court Judge Scott Diamond imposed a 10-year corrections sentence.
Renville was ordered to serve 18 months in state custody.
The remaining prison time was suspended under the terms of her sentence.
She will also serve two years of supervised probation after her release.
Renville received credit for 231 days already spent in custody.
The court also ordered her to pay $1,025 in fees.

Investigation Began in 2024
Renville was arrested May 13 in South Dakota after authorities located her on an outstanding warrant.
The warrant had been issued in October 2024.
She was later transferred to the Cass County Jail in Fargo.
The case followed a lengthy investigation into drugs entering the jail through inmate mail.
Investigators began examining the issue in April 2024 after receiving information about drugs inside the facility.
Authorities said Suboxone was the main controlled substance involved in the investigation.
Investigators said drugs were hidden within the glued portions of mailing envelopes.
The envelopes were allegedly opened with heat, filled with drugs and then resealed.
The method made the drugs difficult for jail employees to detect.

Earlier Conviction Connected to Investigation
The investigation also resulted in a separate case against Amar Kovacevic of Fargo.
Kovacevic pleaded guilty in November 2024 to a drug-delivery conspiracy charge involving the jail.
Renville will serve her sentence through the North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
