Bemidji Teen Charged in Pickup Truck Theft Case
Beltrami County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Bemidji teenager is facing a felony charge after prosecutors say he took a pickup truck without the owner’s permission.
Kody Dennis Fischer, 18, of Bemidji, is charged with felony theft of a motor vehicle. The charge was filed in Beltrami County District Court.
The complaint alleges Fischer took or drove a vehicle without the consent of the owner. The charge is connected to a white 2020 GMC Canyon pickup truck.
Vehicle Theft Investigation
According to the criminal complaint, the incident was reported after the vehicle owner said Fischer took the truck from a residence on Anne Street in Bemidji.
The owner told investigators that Fischer did not have permission to use the vehicle. The truck had North Dakota license plates.
The complaint states a neighbor saw a young male return the vehicle after it had been taken.
The owner also reported another possible unauthorized use of the truck. However, investigators said there was not enough proof for that reported incident.
Fischer Speaks With Investigators
The complaint states Fischer agreed to speak with investigators after being advised he did not have to provide a statement.
According to court documents, Fischer admitted taking the GMC Canyon without permission on a previous date.
Fischer allegedly told investigators he was going through a difficult time and wanted to drive around.
The complaint states Fischer knew where the truck was parked and knew where the keys were located.
Fischer denied taking the vehicle on another reported date.

Court Case Information
Fischer faces one felony count of theft involving a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent.
The charge references Minnesota Statute 609.52. The maximum possible penalty listed in the complaint is up to five years in prison, a $10,000 fine, or both.
A criminal charge is only an allegation. Fischer is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
