Walker Man Charged With DWI After .19 BAC Test

Cass County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Laporte man is facing a gross misdemeanor DWI charge after a traffic stop in Walker led to a reported blood alcohol concentration of .19, according to a criminal complaint filed in Cass County District Court.

Donald Eugene Libby, 59, of Laporte, Minnesota, is charged with driving, operating, or being in physical control of a motor vehicle with an alcohol concentration of .08 or higher within two hours of driving.

The charge is listed as a gross misdemeanor under Minnesota law. The complaint states the offense happened on July 8, 2026, in Cass County.

Traffic Stop Leads To DWI Investigation

According to the complaint, a Minnesota State Patrol trooper was traveling south on Minnesota Highway 371 near 5th Street in Walker.

The complaint states the trooper saw a vehicle accelerate quickly and pass another vehicle by using the left-turn lane.

A traffic stop was then conducted. The driver was identified as Libby.

The complaint states Libby approached the trooper after getting out of the vehicle. Investigators reported smelling a strong odor of alcohol.

The complaint also states Libby showed signs of possible impairment, including slurred speech, watery and bloodshot eyes, and difficulty standing steady.

Field Tests And Breath Test Conducted

According to court documents, Libby told investigators he had consumed two vodka drinks and one and a half beers before driving.

A beer can was also reportedly observed inside the vehicle.

The complaint states that field sobriety testing was performed. Investigators reported multiple indicators of impairment during the tests.

The complaint states Libby was later taken to the Law Enforcement Center in Walker.

After receiving the Minnesota Breath Test Advisory, Libby provided a breath sample.

The complaint states the breath test showed a blood alcohol concentration of .19.

Court Case Pending

The charge includes an aggravating factor because of the reported BAC level.

According to Minnesota court records, a gross misdemeanor DWI conviction can carry penalties of up to 364 days in jail and a fine of up to $3,000.

All charges are allegations, and Libby is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
