Bemidji (trfnews.i234.me) — A Cass Lake man is facing a gross misdemeanor assault charge after an incident at a Bemidji emergency room.

Corey Eugene Madigan is charged in Beltrami County District Court with fifth-degree assault.

The case is filed in Minnesota’s 9th Judicial District under court file 04-CR-26-745.

The charge stems from a March 20, 2026, report at Sanford Emergency Room in Bemidji.

According to the complaint, law enforcement responded at about noon.

The call involved a report of an unruly patient at the emergency room.

When authorities arrived, they were told Madigan had struck a nurse.

The nurse is identified in the complaint by initials only.

The complaint says the nurse was struck near the jawline.

Authorities reported that the strike was made with a closed fist.

Complaint Cites Facial Mark

Photos were taken of the nurse’s face area, according to court documents.

The complaint says the photos showed a distinct white indentation.

Authorities described the mark as consistent with being struck by an object.

Madigan is charged under Minnesota Statute 609.224.

The complaint lists the offense as a gross misdemeanor.

The charge is enhanced because of a prior conviction, according to court records.

The complaint states Madigan was convicted on June 18, 2024, in Beltrami County.

Case Remains Pending

The maximum sentence is 364 days in jail.

The charge also carries a possible $3,000 fine, or both.

A summons was issued in the case.

The charge is only an accusation at this stage.

Madigan is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
