Mahnomen (trfnews.i234.me) — A Bejou man is facing DWI charges after a traffic stop near Shooting Star Casino.

Christopher Michael Holmvik is charged in Mahnomen County District Court.

The case is filed in Minnesota’s 9th Judicial District under court file 44-CR-26-147.

The charges stem from a March 15, 2026, stop on U.S. Highway 59.

Traffic Stop Near Casino

According to the complaint, the stop happened at about 2:09 a.m.

An officer was patrolling northbound on U.S. Highway 59.

The officer saw a vehicle leave the main entrance of the Shooting Star Casino.

The complaint says the vehicle made a wide left turn onto Highway 59.

The vehicle allegedly did not have rear lights activated.

It then crossed the fog line, according to court documents.

The officer also reported that the vehicle crossed the center line.

The complaint says it nearly entered the southbound lane.

Complaint Alleges Signs Of Impairment

The driver was identified as Christopher Michael Holmvik.

The complaint says the officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol.

Holmvik’s speech was described as slurred.

The complaint also says he was unsteady on his feet.

Holmvik performed a horizontal gaze nystagmus test.

Authorities reported six out of six signs of impairment.

Other roadside balance tests were not done due to safety concerns.

During questioning, Holmvik allegedly admitted he was “drunk.”

He also allegedly said he had consumed “too many” alcoholic drinks.

Breath Test Reported At .18

Holmvik was arrested and taken to the Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office.

At the sheriff’s office, authorities again reported signs of impairment.

Holmvik declined to perform the one-leg stand test.

He agreed to submit to a breath test after the advisory was read.

The complaint says the breath test showed a .18 alcohol concentration.

The test was reported at about 2:50 a.m.

Holmvik is charged with third-degree DWI involving .16 or more.

That count is listed under Minnesota Statute 169A.20 and Minnesota Statute 169A.26.

He is also charged with fourth-degree DWI under Minnesota Statute 169A.27.

The third-degree count is a gross misdemeanor.

The fourth-degree count is a misdemeanor.

The charges are only accusations at this stage.

Holmvik is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

More court information may be available through the Minnesota Judicial Branch.
