DETROIT LAKES, Minn. (trfnews.i234.me) – A 56-year-old man faces four criminal charges after a traffic stop in Detroit Lakes.

Brian Keith Krueger, 56, is charged with driving after cancellation, intent to escape motor vehicle taxation, failure to provide insurance information, and obstructing legal process.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Becker County District Court, Krueger allegedly refused to exit his van after being informed of his arrest.

Deputy Spots Van on Richwood Road

The incident occurred October 9, 2026, when a Becker County deputy observed a familiar van traveling southbound on Richwood Road.

According to court documents, the deputy recognized the vehicle as belonging to Krueger.

The deputy also knew that Krueger’s driving privileges had been canceled as inimical to public safety.

Police stopped the van within Detroit Lakes city limits.

The deputy confirmed Krueger was driving the vehicle.

The complaint identifies Dale Donald Beyer as a passenger in the van.

Driver Allegedly Refuses to Exit Vehicle

During the traffic stop, the deputy informed Krueger that he was under arrest.

According to the complaint, Krueger refused to get out of the van.

That alleged refusal became part of the basis for the misdemeanor charge of obstructing legal process or arrest.

The complaint does not describe any physical confrontation or injuries during the stop.

Van Registration Expired Months Earlier

Investigators also discovered that the van’s registration had expired in February 2026.

According to court documents, Krueger had been advised on multiple occasions that he needed to renew the vehicle’s registration.

Prosecutors allege Krueger violated Minnesota’s motor vehicle registration requirements with intent to avoid paying required taxes or fees.

That allegation resulted in a gross misdemeanor charge of intent to escape taxation.
