DETROIT LAKES, Minn. (trfnews.i234.me) – A 56-year-old man faces four criminal charges after a traffic stop in Detroit Lakes.
Brian Keith Krueger, 56, is charged with driving after cancellation, intent to escape motor vehicle taxation, failure to provide insurance information, and obstructing legal process.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Becker County District Court, Krueger allegedly refused to exit his van after being informed of his arrest.
Deputy Spots Van on Richwood Road
The incident occurred October 9, 2026, when a Becker County deputy observed a familiar van traveling southbound on Richwood Road.
According to court documents, the deputy recognized the vehicle as belonging to Krueger.
The deputy also knew that Krueger’s driving privileges had been canceled as inimical to public safety.

Van Registration Expired Months Earlier
Investigators also discovered that the van’s registration had expired in February 2026.
According to court documents, Krueger had been advised on multiple occasions that he needed to renew the vehicle’s registration.
Prosecutors allege Krueger violated Minnesota’s motor vehicle registration requirements with intent to avoid paying required taxes or fees.
That allegation resulted in a gross misdemeanor charge of intent to escape taxation.

Driver Fails to Provide Insurance Documentation
During the stop, Krueger also allegedly failed to provide proof that the van was insured.
The complaint lists a misdemeanor charge for failure to provide proof of insurance.
The charge concerns the failure to produce documentation when requested. The complaint does not establish that the vehicle was uninsured.
