Warroad Woman Faces Felony Threats, Assault Charges

Warroad (trfnews.i234.me) — Catalina Kay Chanphom faces felony threats and misdemeanor domestic assault charges in Roseau County.

Dispute Begins During Morning Trip

The alleged victim told investigators that Chanphom had stayed at her residence the previous night.

She said the night passed without problems.

However, the alleged victim said Chanphom appeared angry the following morning.

The alleged victim had broken her foot several weeks earlier, according to the complaint.

Chanphom allegedly suggested using the accessible shower at Chanphom’s apartment.

The alleged victim said she felt uncomfortable and intentionally left her change of clothes behind.

The two then drove to Chanphom’s apartment.

The alleged victim said Chanphom became angry after learning she had not brought extra clothing.

The alleged victim asked Chanphom to enter the apartment alone while she waited outside.

Chanphom allegedly refused and drove them back across Warroad.

The alleged victim described the driving as very fast, according to the complaint.

During the drive, Chanphom allegedly threatened to punch The alleged victim in the face.

The two eventually reached The alleged victim’s apartment building.

The alleged victim asked Chanphom to stay outside while she entered.

Chanphom instead asked to retrieve soda and shoes from inside, prosecutors allege.

The alleged victim said she wanted her sister to accompany them.

That request allegedly caused Chanphom to become more angry.

The complaint says Chanphom then lunged toward The alleged victim.

The alleged victim feared she would be assaulted and ran upstairs without her crutches.

She reached her apartment and went inside.

Chanphom allegedly followed her upstairs and remained in the hallway yelling.

She later left the building, according to the complaint.

Then drove the alleged victim to LifeCare Medical Center for her injured foot.

Clinic workers later reported seeing Chanphom around the clinic parking lot several times.

That charge carries up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

The domestic assault charge cites Minnesota Statute 609.2242.

Misdemeanor penalties are addressed under Minnesota Statute 609.03.
