Warroad Man Charged in Ex-Boss Threat Texts

Roseau County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Warroad man faces a felony charge after reported threat texts.

Charge filed

Zachary James Meyer, 40, of Warroad, is charged with one count of felony threats of violence.

The case is filed in Roseau County District Court.

  • Investigation began: Feb. 15, 2026.
  • Alleged offense date: Feb. 16, 2026.
  • Charge filed: Feb. 17, 2026.

What investigators allege

According to the criminal complaint, a third party reported receiving texts from Meyer.

The messages were aimed at Meyer’s former employer, the complaint says.

Investigators say the texts threatened to shoot and kill the former boss.

Other lines threatened an assault and used explicit language.

Deputies later spoke with the former employer, court records state.

The victim said he feared for his safety.

The victim asked law enforcement to take action, the complaint says.

Deputies then contacted Meyer at his residence, according to the filing.

Investigators say Meyer admitted sending the messages.

He told deputies his words were protected by “freedom of speech,” the complaint states.
