Thief River Falls Woman Charged In Drug DWI Case

Thief River Falls (trfnews.i234.me) – A Newfolden woman is facing a gross misdemeanor DWI charge after a March traffic stop in Thief River Falls.

A criminal complaint filed in Pennington County District Court charges Ashley Marie Wilson with third-degree DWI involving a controlled substance. The case is listed as Court File No. 57-CR-26-292.

The charge stems from an alleged incident on March 7, 2026. Court records say Wilson was driving in Thief River Falls with methamphetamine in her body. The complaint also says a child under age 18 was inside the vehicle.

Traffic Stop Near Schools

According to the complaint, law enforcement stopped a vehicle after checking its Minnesota license plate. The check allegedly showed the registration was revoked.

The complaint says the vehicle traveled near Lincoln High School and St. Bernard’s School before stopping near Main Avenue and 1st Street.

Wilson was identified as the driver. Roger Harlan Garfve was identified as the front passenger. Bobbi Jo Garfve was also listed as being in the back seat with a baby.

Authorities say Wilson appeared agitated during the stop. The complaint says she told officers she was looking for a safe place to pull over.

Search And Test Results

During the stop, officers searched the vehicle. The complaint says a small, clear baggie with a white crystal substance was found inside a glove.

The substance was later tested presumptive positive for methamphetamine, according to court records. Officers also reported finding marijuana in Wilson’s purse.

Wilson was later asked to complete field sobriety tests. The complaint says officers noted balance issues and other signs of possible impairment.

She was arrested on suspicion of DWI. A search warrant was later approved for a urine sample.

According to the complaint, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension later tested the sample. The results came back positive for methamphetamine, amphetamine, and THC.

Charge Filed In Pennington County

Wilson is charged under Minnesota Statute 169A.20, with reference to Minnesota Statute 169A.26.

Third-degree DWI is listed as a gross misdemeanor under Minnesota law. The complaint states the maximum sentence is 364 days in jail, a $3,000 fine, or both.
