Thief River Falls Man Sentenced for Possession of Child Pornography

Thief River Falls, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – Jaysen David Miller, 34, was sentenced on Tuesday, July 23, in Pennington County District Court for possessing child pornography. Miller faced two felony counts of possession of pornographic work involving minors under 14 and one felony count of possession of pornographic work.

Sentencing Details:

  • Felony Possession of Pornographic Work:
    • First Charge: 15 months in prison, stayed for five years. Conditions include completing a psychological-sexual evaluation, registering as a predatory offender, and restrictions on contact with minors and use of the internet. Miller must also avoid adult entertainment venues and not possess sexually explicit material.
    • Second Charge: 20 months in prison, stayed for five years, with the same conditions.
    • Third Charge: 48 months in prison, stayed for five years, with supervised probation for five years. Miller must also pay fines totaling $50.

Miller was credited for 181 days already served in jail. Three other felony counts were dismissed.

Background:

The charges stemmed from a report by Florida authorities on February 14, 2023, about a Thief River Falls resident uploading child pornography. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children had previously tipped authorities about an image on Miller’s Google account. When the case was investigated, it was found that Miller had moved to Thief River Falls.

Investigation:

  • A warrant was granted to search Miller’s hotel room at Quality Inn, where multiple electronic devices were seized, including phones, computers, and flash drives.
  • Investigators found approximately 165 images and 34 videos of child pornography on Miller’s devices. These depicted various explicit acts involving minors under 14, including an infant.

Outcome:

Miller was initially charged with possessing several images and videos of child pornography. The complaint also described additional explicit materials for which he was not charged.
