Pennington County (trfnews.i234.me) – A Thief River Falls man is facing second-degree DWI charges after police say he was driving at a high rate of speed and later tested twice the legal alcohol limit.

According to a criminal complaint filed in the Ninth Judicial District Court, the incident occurred on July 21, 2025, when Thief River Falls police officers observed a vehicle speeding eastbound on 3rd Street after turning off Atlantic Avenue.

Officers stopped the driver, identified as Jack Leighton Hamre, 35, and reported signs of impairment, including slurred speech, glossy eyes, and the odor of alcohol. Field sobriety tests showed multiple indicators of intoxication.

A preliminary breath test and later a DMT breath test both registered .16 BAC. Court documents state Hamre has a prior DWI conviction within the past ten years, which, along with his BAC, elevated the charge to second-degree DWI.

If convicted, Hamre faces up to 364 days in jail and a $3,000 fine. The case is filed under 57-CR-25-481 in Pennington County District Court.
