Thief River Falls (trfnews.i234.me) — A Viking man is facing two gross misdemeanor charges after an alleged theft and DWI incident at Walmart.
According to a Pennington County District Court complaint, Shawn Pierre Belland, 37, is charged with gross misdemeanor theft and third-degree driving while impaired.
The case was filed in Minnesota’s 9th Judicial District under court file number 57-CR-26-302.
Alleged Walmart Theft
The complaint says officers were called to Walmart on May 1, 2026, at about 5:27 p.m.
Walmart asset protection worker James Robert Caldwell reported that Belland allegedly left the store with trading cards.
Caldwell told officers the items were placed in a toolbox in Belland’s truck.
He also reported that Belland had been acting intoxicated inside the store.
Store staff said Belland made workers uncomfortable and moved close to employees.
The complaint says Belland also allegedly bothered customers in the parking lot.

Investigators say store video showed Belland leaving without paying.
The complaint says 26 items were taken from Walmart.
The total value was listed at $713.85.
The theft charge was filed under Minnesota Statute 609.52.
DWI Allegation
Officers found Belland seated in the driver’s seat of his truck, according to the complaint.
He allegedly had the vehicle keys in his possession.
Officers reported smelling alcohol on Belland.
They also noted watery eyes and signs of impairment.
The complaint says Belland first said he had consumed a couple of drinks.
He later denied drinking that day, according to the filing.
Officers also found trading cards in the truck.
Belland allegedly denied taking them before later gathering cards from the truck.
Officers attempted field sobriety testing in the parking lot.
The complaint says Belland had trouble with balance and instructions.
He was then arrested and taken to the law enforcement center.
A breath test later showed a blood alcohol concentration of .18, according to the complaint.
The DWI charge was filed under Minnesota’s third-degree DWI statute.
Possible Penalties
Both charges are gross misdemeanors.
Each charge carries a possible sentence of up to 364 days in jail.
Each charge also carries a possible $3,000 fine.
The complaint contains allegations only.
Belland is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
I’m Chris Harper reporting for TRF News.
This man crashed his cart into my cart on purpose as I had my three kids with me and I had my 20m baby in the cart in Walmart. then me and my kids went outside to put groceries away in the car and he proceeds to ask me multiple times if I had any cigarettes while my kids are standing there asking what cigarettes are and then he tells me “I lost my car”. Like get the fuck away from me.
This guy lives in my town and dated/moved in with my next door neighbor for about a week like 2 years ago. Ever since then, he will randomly show up at my front door asking for my husband and if we have any weed. We have absolutely no weed and my husband has no idea who he even is, but this guy never seems to understand that and always returns to ask for the same thing again another day.
