Thief River Falls (trfnews.i234.me) — No injuries were reported after a deck fire Saturday afternoon in Thief River Falls.
The fire was reported at 1:55 p.m. at 936 Main Ave. N. Fire Chief Rick Beier said the fire started on the deck. Officials said it was caused by an improperly discarded cigarette.
Fire Spread To Front Door And Eave
The deck and front door were damaged in the fire. Flames also spread to an eave of the home. Damage was estimated at at least $5,000.
The home is rented by Allan Miller. The property is owned by M & K Properties.

Firefighters remained on the scene for about 45 minutes. Crews worked to stop the fire from spreading further into the home.
Smoking Materials Can Cause Fires
Fire officials often warn people to fully put out cigarettes before disposal. Smoking materials can remain hot after use. They should be placed in safe containers.
