Waite Park, Stearns County, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) — On Saturday, April 12, 2025, a tragic incident unfolded in Waite Park, resulting in the deaths of two adults in what authorities have confirmed as a murder-suicide.
Around 2:12 p.m., two Waite Park police officers, who were nearby on an unrelated call, heard gunshots from a residence on the 200 block of 10th Avenue North. Shortly thereafter, two children, ages 5 and 8, fled the home and informed the officers of the shooting. The children were unharmed and were secured in a squad car for their safety.
Upon entering the residence, officers discovered the bodies of 36-year-old Janet Vercruysse of Waite Park and 29-year-old Demico Elyea-Goss of St. Cloud. Preliminary autopsy results indicate that Vercruysse died from multiple gunshot wounds, while Elyea-Goss died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Multiple firearms were recovered at the scene.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting with the investigation. Authorities have stated that no officers discharged their weapons during the incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Friends and family remember Vercruysse as a caring and adventurous individual who cherished time with her children, family, and friends. She had moved to Waite Park just over a year ago and was known for her vibrant personality and love for life.
