BEMIDJI, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – Bemidji High School (BHS) was briefly placed under a “secure” emergency response today following reports of a student allegedly in possession of a weapon, prompting swift action from school officials and law enforcement.

According to the district’s emergency response protocol, a “secure” response signifies a potential threat outside the school premises. As a precautionary measure, outside doors were locked while activities inside the school continued without disruption.

Law enforcement was immediately alerted to investigate the situation at BHS, ensuring the safety of students and staff. Fortunately, after a thorough search, no weapon was found on the premises. Authorities confirmed that there was no evidence to substantiate the initial report of a weapon.

Following the investigation’s conclusion and the confirmation of safety, students were released from the “secure” emergency response protocol.

Superintendent Jeremy Olson emphasized the paramount importance of prioritizing the safety of students and staff. “As always, the safety of our students and staff are our top priority,” said Olson in a statement. “We thank law enforcement for their rapid response.”

As the school community exhales a collective sigh of relief, the incident serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of swift and decisive action in ensuring school safety.
