The crash unfolded at the intersection of 94th 1⁄2 Ave SE and Richland County Hwy 21, approximately two miles southwest of Hankinson, on May 2nd, 2024, at 11:25 AM Central time.
Despite the wet but otherwise good road conditions, the challenging curve and inclement weather combination proved too much for the truck’s driver, Justin Pond, a 34-year-old male hailing from Milbank, SD. As the Mack truck failed to navigate the curve, it careened into the north ditch, ultimately flipping onto its roof in a harrowing rollover.
