Truck Rollover Shakes Richland County: Driver Injured in Wet Road Crash

HANKINSON, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – In a startling incident that rattled Richland County, a Mack truck pulling a gravel trailer veered off course, leading to a dramatic rollover that left the driver injured. The crash unfolded at the intersection of 94th 1⁄2 Ave SE and Richland County Hwy 21, approximately two miles southwest of Hankinson, on May 2nd, 2024, at 11:25 AM Central time.

Despite the wet but otherwise good road conditions, the challenging curve and inclement weather combination proved too much for the truck’s driver, Justin Pond, a 34-year-old male hailing from Milbank, SD. As the Mack truck failed to navigate the curve, it careened into the north ditch, ultimately flipping onto its roof in a harrowing rollover.

Emergency response units, including the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Richland County Sheriff, and Hankinson Fire/Ambulance, swiftly converged to provide assistance and medical care. Pond, though seriously injured, fortunately, sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the crash.

Following the tumultuous ordeal, Pond was promptly transported by ambulance to Sanford Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Despite the severity of the incident, authorities have determined that Pond will not face charges beyond a citation for failing to maintain his lane of travel.

The crash serves as a sobering reminder of the unpredictable nature of road travel, especially in adverse weather conditions. As the investigation into the incident continues, local authorities urge drivers to exercise caution and vigilance when navigating the county’s roadways, emphasizing the importance of adhering to speed limits and road signage to ensure the safety of all travelers.
