Beltrami County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Red Lake man is facing a gross misdemeanor DWI charge after a traffic stop in Beltrami County.
Cole Irvine Cobenais, of Red Lake, is charged in Beltrami County District Court with third-degree DWI. The charge is tied to an alleged alcohol concentration of 0.08 or more within two hours of driving.
The case was filed under court file number 04-CR-26-888. The offense date listed in the complaint is April 18, 2026.
Traffic Stop Reported Near Irvine Avenue
According to the criminal complaint, a deputy was parked along Irvine Avenue NW at about 9:21 p.m. The deputy saw a dark Chrysler sedan traveling south.
The vehicle approached Irvine Avenue and Lumberjack Road NW. The complaint says the center brake light was not working.
A traffic stop was then made for the alleged equipment violation. The driver was identified as Cole Irvine Cobenais.
The complaint says Cobenais had glassy and red eyes. Two rear-seat passengers were also in the vehicle.

Breath Tests Listed In Complaint
Authorities later learned Cobenais had a revoked driver’s license, according to the complaint.
The deputy conducted field sobriety testing. The complaint says Cobenais showed signs of impairment during the tests.
A preliminary breath test showed a result of .117, according to the complaint. Cobenais was then arrested on suspicion of DWI.
He was taken to the Beltrami County Jail. The complaint says he later gave a breath test result of .09.
Minnesota law lists third-degree DWI under Minnesota Statute 169A.26. The DWI driving offense is listed under Minnesota Statute 169A.20.
Passenger Also Arrested
The complaint says one rear-seat passenger first gave a false name. She was later identified as Edyn Ann Drouillard.
Authorities found she had multiple arrest warrants, according to the complaint. A purse she carried was searched.
The complaint says a small baggie was found inside. The substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
A second passenger was identified as Stanley Charles Donnell. The complaint says the rear-seat passengers were not wearing seat belts.
Prior Convictions Cited
The complaint lists a January 2026 conviction for driving after revocation in Wright County.
It also lists an April 2018 conviction for third-degree DWI in Beltrami County.
The current charge carries a maximum sentence of 364 days in jail, a $3,000 fine, or both.
