Red Lake Falls Arrests, Rescues Reported

Red Lake County (trfnews.i234.me) — Red Lake County authorities reported several arrests, citations, river rescues, and community updates in a June 5 sheriff’s report.

Crash, Warrants, And Citations

A minor crash at the Eagle Square Parking Lot in Red Lake Falls remains under review.

The crash happened on May 26. Investigators later found that one driver did not have a valid license.

Linda Ann Galasso, 67, of Red Lake Falls, was cited for no valid driver’s license.

On May 29, deputies arrested Sean Raymond Weber, 51, of Oklee. Authorities said Otter Tail County had an active felony warrant for him.

Weber was taken to jail in Crookston. He was expected to be turned over to Otter Tail County authorities.

That same evening, a Red Lake Falls resident reported two grandchildren missing from a yard. The children had left on bicycles.

About one hour later, a deputy found them at Riverside Park. Their grandfather was contacted and picked them up.

On May 30, Tim Lee Keightley, 64, of Thief River Falls, was cited for speeding on County Road 13 west of Red Lake Falls.

Red Lake River Calls

Also on May 30, deputies responded to a disturbance on the Red Lake River.

Authorities said Brenda Lynn Syverson, 40, of Emerado, North Dakota, was arrested after the incident.

She was taken to jail in Crookston and booked for misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

Syverson was released the next morning. She is expected to appear in court in Red Lake Falls later this month.

Deputies, the Red Lake Falls Fire Department, and the Red Lake Falls Ambulance also responded to a river rescue.

Two people were boating when their boat became stuck on a sandbar.

One person could not swim and could not reach shore alone. Rescue crews brought both people safely to shore.

On June 4, emergency crews responded to another medical call on the Red Lake River.

An adult woman was treated at the scene. No ambulance transport was needed.

The two people were later given a ride to the Voyageur’s View parking lot.

Drug, DUI, And Theft Reports

On June 2, authorities received a report near Lafayette High School in Red Lake Falls.

A person inside a vehicle appeared to be smoking marijuana, according to the report.

Shannon Ray Wadena Jr., 35, of Mahnomen, was cited for a misdemeanor marijuana open package violation.

Authorities also seized a large amount of marijuana.

Later that evening, Jared Thomas Swanson, 39, of Thief River Falls, was stopped on County Road 5 north of Oklee.

Authorities said Swanson showed signs of impairment by illegal controlled substances.

Marijuana and a smoking device were found in the vehicle.

Swanson was booked for gross misdemeanor DUI, a marijuana open package violation, and speeding.

He appeared in court in Crookston on June 4. Bail was set at $700 cash.

His next court date is June 17 in Red Lake Falls. Authorities said he remained in custody.

On June 3, a Red Lake Falls resident reported missing money from a bank account.

That case remains under investigation.

On June 4, Derek Birdean Christianson, 38, of Fosston, was cited on Highway 59 north of Brooks.

He was cited for speeding and expired motor vehicle registration.

Teams Head To State

On June 1, emergency crews escorted the Red Lake Falls Eagles softball team out of town.

The team won the Section 8A Championship and advanced to the state tournament.

The Red Lake County Rebel baseball team also won the Section 8A Championship.

It was the team’s second straight section title. The Rebels will defend their state title next week.
