Pine River E-Bike DWI Refusal Charge Filed

Pine River (trfnews.i234.me) — A Backus man is facing a gross misdemeanor charge after a reported E-bike DWI stop in Pine River.

Adam Lee Bridge, 44, has been charged in Cass County District Court with refusing to submit to a chemical breath test. The charge was filed under the Minnesota impaired driving law.

The complaint says the case stems from an incident on June 4, 2026. Police allege Bridge was seen riding a self-propelled electric E-bike near Highway 371 in Pine River.

According to court documents, Bridge was allegedly coming from Barstock Liquors. Police also reported seeing an alcoholic beverage in his hand while he rode in public.

Complaint Details

Moments later, police found the E-bike parked near a picnic table by a Highway 371 gas station. The complaint says a Twisted Tea alcoholic beverage was on the table.

Bridge was inside the gas station when police made contact with him. Officers were also told Bridge had a Cass County warrant.

Police said they smelled alcohol on Bridge’s breath. The complaint also says his eyes appeared bloodshot and watery.

Investigators said Bridge’s behavior did not appear normal. Field sobriety testing was then discussed.

The complaint says Bridge first refused field sobriety tests. He later agreed to take them.

Police then asked Bridge to blow into a preliminary breath test device. Court documents say he refused.

Test Refusal Alleged

Bridge was arrested on suspicion of DWI. Police said the arrest involved operating a self-propelled motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

Authorities said Bridge was read the breath test advisory. He allegedly said he did not understand it.

The advisory was read again. The complaint says Bridge interrupted and stated he would not take the breath test.

Police told him that refusal was a crime. Bridge allegedly said he would not take the test.

The charge is a gross misdemeanor. The complaint lists a maximum sentence of 364 days in jail, a $3,000 fine, or both.

According to the complaint, the case includes one aggravating factor. Court records cite a prior gross misdemeanor test refusal conviction from Crow Wing County in 2022.

The complaint also lists a 2014 DWI case in Cass County. However, court documents say that case is not within the 10-year enhancement window.

More information on Minnesota impaired driving laws is available through the Minnesota Revisor of Statutes. Public court information may also be searched through the Minnesota Judicial Branch.

Bridge is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
