Scott Ryan Larson was born on August 13, 1985 to Jerald and Darcy (Olson) Larson at Northwestern Hospital in Thief River Falls, MN. He was baptized at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt, MN and was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Winsted, MN where the family relocated to in 1988. Scott graduated from Watertown-Mayer High School with the class of 2004.
Scott enlisted in the United States Navy and served honorably as a Corpsman and completed training as a pharmacy tech at Fort Sam in San Antonio, TX. He was stationed at the Pensacola Naval Hospital in Florida until his honorable discharge in 2017. During his time, Scott received two Naval Achievement Medals, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and an Expert Marksman Medal.
Scott had a big heart. He was patient, forgiving, and often deep in thought. He was a talented writer and a prolific reader, he especially enjoyed books about philosophy, and anything written by J.R.R. Tolkien. He appreciated people and walked through life with gratitude.
His greatest joy in life came from his family, especially his nephew and niece. He loved and accepted them unconditionally, and they shared the same affection for him. He was a willing jungle gym for them when they were young and as they grew, he would teach them board games and introduce them to movies and books he knew they’d like. He spent countless hours on the water with them, tubing or wrestling on a giant lily pad, and attended their activities when he could. His inner child was always willing to play with them and humor any request they had. He would spend the disposable income he had creating experiences he thought they’d enjoy, such as the “pumpkin game” (an elaborate game of tag), a haunted trail for them to walk through each fall, and fireworks to shoot off and enjoy after a day on the lake.
He loved celebrating holidays, especially Christmas. He was an excellent gift giver and would purchase gifts for others all year long. He lived the phrase, “It is better to give than receive.”
Little did he know, he was the ultimate gift. He was a good person with a kind heart. He was extremely loyal to those he loved and had an amazing sense of humor. He will be missed and remembered forever by all who were blessed enough to know and love him.
Scott is survived by his parents, Jerald and Darcy; sister, Jennifer (Mark) Anderson of Waconia, MN; nephew and niece, Harold and Inga Anderson; best friend/cousin, Daniel Molstad; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Scott was preceded by his grandparents, Orville and Yvonne Larson and Leonard and Marlene Olson; and aunts, Tonia Larson and Jeanine Molstad.
