Polk County, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) — A Sartell woman arrested for selling methamphetamine in Polk County has avoided immediate prison time after a plea deal. Sonja Robin Plantz, 42, was sentenced Tuesday, April 8, to a stayed 75-month prison term and 120 days of local confinement with work release privileges.
Plantz pleaded guilty in October to felony first-degree methamphetamine sale and misdemeanor fourth-degree DWI (controlled substance). A second first-degree sale charge—carrying harsher penalties due to a prior conviction—was dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
Her arrest stemmed from a March 20, 2024 traffic stop in which officers observed her vehicle weaving. A K-9 unit later alerted to drugs, and Plantz admitted to using meth earlier that day. A search of her vehicle revealed methamphetamine, two phones, and $600 cash. Field tests confirmed the substance as meth, weighing 3.8 grams with packaging.
Plantz later told law enforcement she had sold one ounce of meth for $600 in Polk County and had recently purchased three ounces in Monticello, selling two more ounces near Clearwater, MN.
Under sentencing terms, she will serve five years of supervised probation. If she violates conditions—such as random drug testing, compliance checks, or reoffending—she could be ordered to serve her full 75-month sentence at MCF-Shakopee. She received credit for 3 days already served.

Minnesota law considers first-degree methamphetamine sale one of the most serious drug offenses, carrying up to 30 years in prison—but plea deals and stayed sentences are often granted in exchange for cooperation or rehabilitation efforts.
