WEST METRO STANDOFF: Armed Units, Crisis Team Deployed After Minneapolis Man Sparks Police Chase In Minnetonka

Minnetonka, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) — A high-tension standoff unfolded late Tuesday night in Minnetonka after a Minneapolis man led police on a brief pursuit and then refused to exit his vehicle, prompting a massive law enforcement response and a full shutdown of Hopkins Crossroad just north of I-394.

According to police, the incident began at approximately 10:15 p.m. on April 8, 2025, when a Minnetonka officer spotted the driver committing several traffic violations. Suspecting impairment, the officer attempted a traffic stop—but the 31-year-old suspect instead fled, resulting in a short chase of less than a mile.

Once the vehicle came to a stop, the driver ignored repeated commands to exit and displayed agitated behavior, leading officers to deploy armored vehicles for safety and containment. A perimeter was set, and a crisis negotiator was brought in to engage with the man.

The standoff, which lasted until 11:54 p.m., ended without violence when the suspect peacefully surrendered and was taken into custody. No shots were fired, and no injuries were reported.

The man was arrested on suspicion of fleeing police in a motor vehicle. Authorities say blood tests are pending to determine whether drugs or alcohol played a role.

Agencies assisting in the response included Golden Valley, Hopkins, Plymouth, St. Louis Park police departments, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, and Minnesota State Troopers.

Formal charges are expected as the investigation moves forward.
