Naytahwaush Man Charged in Felony Assault Case
Mahnomen County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Naytahwaush man is facing a felony domestic assault charge following a reported incident in Mahnomen County.
Roy Olvan Aune, 33, of Naytahwaush, is charged with felony domestic assault under Minnesota law. The charge was filed in Mahnomen County District Court.
The complaint states the alleged incident happened on June 5, 2026. Court documents say the case involves a family or household member.
Alleged Domestic Assault Incident
According to the criminal complaint, deputies were called to a residence on Tower Street North in Naytahwaush.
The complaint states that the woman involved reported that she and Aune had been arguing for several days. She said she left the home briefly to get away from the conflict.
The woman reported returning during the early morning hours. She said Aune was sleeping on the couch when she arrived.
Later, she told investigators she was caring for their children when an argument continued.
The complaint states the woman reported that Aune entered the kitchen area during a disagreement. She alleged he grabbed a cereal box and struck her in the forehead area.
She also reported that Aune pushed her from behind while she attempted to leave the area.
The complaint states she contacted law enforcement because she feared the situation could continue.
Defendant Gives Different Account
According to the complaint, Aune provided a different version of events.
Aune told investigators he was the primary caretaker of the couple’s seven children.
He said the woman returned home early in the morning while he was sleeping.
The complaint states that Aune claimed the woman attempted to wake him by slapping him.
He said they later came into contact in the kitchen area. He described the contact as a bump or nudge.
Previous Convictions Increase Charge Level
The complaint states the current charge was elevated to a felony because of prior qualified domestic violence-related convictions.
Court records listed previous domestic assault convictions involving the same victim.
The records state Aune was previously convicted in 2016, 2018, and 2022.
The current charge carries a possible maximum penalty of five years in prison, a $10,000 fine, or both.
All charges are allegations. A defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
