Mahnomen Man Faces Felony Knife Assault Charges

Mahnomen (trfnews.i234.me) — A Mahnomen man faces felony charges following an alleged knife assault near Riverland Apartments.

Percy Leonard French Jr., 31, is charged in Mahnomen County District Court.

The case stems from an alleged confrontation on September 24, 2026.

Man Suffered Cut To Hand

According to the criminal complaint, Cody Alan St. Clair Sr. was found outside Riverland Apartments.

He had a makeshift tourniquet on his arm and blood coming from his hand.

St. Clair told law enforcement he had fought with French and Jordan Lee French.

He alleged Percy French threatened to stab him during the confrontation.

St. Clair said French swung at him several times with an object.

He said the first two attempts were blocked.

The complaint alleges another strike cut St. Clair’s hand.

Surveillance Video Reviewed

Investigators later reviewed surveillance footage from the area.

The complaint says the video showed French riding toward St. Clair before a fight began.

At one point, St. Clair appeared to back away.

French was then allegedly seen lunging toward him several times with his arm extended.

French and Jordan French were later seen leaving the area on bicycles.

French Taken Into Custody

Law enforcement later located both men riding bicycles in Mahnomen.

Jordan French stopped when officers ordered the men to halt.

The complaint alleges Percy French continued into a nearby residence.

He later came outside and was taken into custody.

Investigators reported finding a knife near the residence.

A later search also recovered items and clothing with apparent bloodstains, according to the complaint.

Four Charges Filed

French is charged with felony second-degree assault involving a dangerous weapon and substantial bodily harm.

That charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison or a $20,000 fine.

He also faces felony threats of violence.

The maximum penalty on that count is five years imprisonment or a $10,000 fine.

Two misdemeanor counts were also filed.

They allege obstruction of the legal process and fleeing a peace officer on foot.

The charges are allegations. French is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
