Moorhead Man Charged After Courthouse Traffic Stop
Moorhead (trfnews.i234.me) — A Hawley man faces two traffic charges after a May courthouse visit.
Kallob Roy Burnside, 25, was charged in Clay County District Court. The complaint lists one gross misdemeanor and one misdemeanor.
The charges remain allegations. Burnside is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Deputies Reported Seeing Burnside Drive
The complaint says Burnside appeared at the Clay County courthouse on May 21, 2026.
He pleaded guilty that day in a separate insurance case, according to the filing.
Courthouse deputies reportedly knew Burnside’s driving privileges had been canceled.
They allegedly watched him leave the building and enter a vehicle.
The complaint says Burnside then drove away from the courthouse.
A deputy stopped the vehicle on 11th Street North in Moorhead.
Complaint Lists Two Traffic Charges
Prosecutors charged Burnside with failing to provide valid proof of insurance.
The gross misdemeanor charge was filed under Minnesota Statute 169.791.
A conviction could bring up to one year in jail.
The charge also carries a possible fine of up to $3,000.
The second charge alleges driving after license cancellation.
That misdemeanor was filed under Minnesota Statute 171.24.
The maximum penalty is 90 days in jail or a $1,000 fine.
Both penalties could also be imposed.
Prior Insurance Cases Cited
During the traffic stop, Burnside allegedly admitted knowing he lacked a valid license.
He also allegedly told the deputy that the vehicle was uninsured.
The complaint cites several earlier convictions involving vehicle insurance violations.
Those cases were listed to support the gross misdemeanor insurance charge.
The current case is filed as 14-CR-26-1875 in Minnesota’s Seventh Judicial District.
