Moorhead Bicycle Theft Leads to Criminal Charge

Moorhead (trfnews.i234.me) — A Fargo man faces a theft charge after a bicycle was allegedly taken from a vehicle carrier.

Arsenio Eugene James, 38, is charged in Clay County District Court with gross misdemeanor theft.

The alleged theft happened in Moorhead on July 16, 2026.

The charge involves property valued between $500 and $1,000. The bicycle was reportedly worth about $900.

James has not been convicted. The allegations remain unproven unless established in court.

Bicycle Taken From Vehicle Carrier

According to the criminal complaint, two Moorhead residents had a bicycle secured to their vehicle.

The bicycle was purple and pink. It had been bought used in November 2025.

The residents planned to take the bicycle to a repair shop for its owner.

James allegedly walked past the home, removed the bicycle, and rode away.

One resident first ran after him. The residents then entered their vehicle and continued following him.

The complaint says they caught up with James and approached him.

James then allegedly told them to stay away or he would shoot.

A Moorhead police officer saw the confrontation while driving nearby.

The officer ordered James to stop, according to the complaint.

James allegedly said the residents were trying to hurt him.

He also claimed the bicycle belonged to his brother.

James then rode away as the officer followed with emergency lights activated.

The officer also used the siren and repeatedly ordered James to stop.

James reportedly stopped twice to adjust the bicycle chain. He then continued riding each time.

Police eventually caught him and recovered the bicycle.

James again claimed the bicycle belonged to his brother.

He gave police two different names for the alleged brother, the complaint states.

James also claimed his brother’s name appeared on the bicycle.

Police did not find a name displayed on it.

The bicycle’s owner later gave police an accurate description by telephone.

James is charged under Minnesota’s theft law. The charge carries up to 364 days in jail.
