Minnesota-Cuba Coalition Advocates for Reopening Travel and Trade with Cuba

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – Today, the Minnesota Cuba Coalition convenes at Senator Amy Klobuchar’s office in Minneapolis, aiming to push for the normalization of travel and trade relations with Cuba. Here’s what’s happening:

  1. End to US Embargo: The coalition, operating under the banner of “Minnesotans Love Cuba,” seeks to end the longstanding US embargo on Cuba. They emphasize the importance of lifting restrictions to foster better relations between the two nations.
  2. Petition Delivery: During the gathering, the group plans to deliver a petition containing hundreds of signatures. The petition urges the Biden Administration to remove Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, a designation that impedes diplomatic and economic ties.
  3. Senator Klobuchar’s Support: Senator Klobuchar has been a vocal advocate for thawing relations with Cuba. She co-sponsored the Freedom to Export to Cuba Act and notably traveled to Cuba in 2016 alongside then-President Obama and Congressman Tom Emmer.

The coalition’s efforts underscore the growing momentum for change in US-Cuba relations, driven by grassroots activism and bipartisan support for diplomacy.
