Mahnomen County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Laporte man is facing charges in Mahnomen County District Court after a traffic stop on Highway 200.
Alexandre Louis Roberts, 33, has been charged with driving after cancellation. Court records say the cancellation was listed as inimical to public safety. The charge is a gross misdemeanor under Minnesota Statute 171.24.
Roberts also faces a petty misdemeanor speeding charge under Minnesota Statute 169.14. The case is filed in Minnesota’s Ninth Judicial District. The court file number is 44-CR-26-194.
Traffic Stop On Highway 200
According to the complaint, the traffic stop happened on February 26, 2026. The stop was reported at about 4:22 p.m. on Highway 200 in Mahnomen County.
A peace officer reported seeing a vehicle approaching at a high rate of speed. Radar allegedly showed the vehicle traveling 70 mph in a 55 mph zone.
The officer then turned around and stopped the vehicle. The driver was identified as Alexandre Louis Roberts.
Complaint Lists License Status
The complaint says Roberts admitted to speeding after the stop. Court records also state his driver’s license was canceled.
Prosecutors allege Roberts had actual notice, or reason to know, about the cancellation. The complaint says his driving privileges had been canceled as being inimical to public safety.
The gross misdemeanor charge carries a possible maximum sentence of 364 days in jail. It also carries a possible $3,000 fine, or both.
The speeding count carries a maximum fine of $300, according to the complaint.
Case Moving Through Court
The charges are allegations at this stage. Roberts has not been convicted in this case.
The complaint was filed by the State of Minnesota in the Mahnomen County District Court. A summons was issued in the case.
