Joyce M. Trageton, 89, of Fargo, ND and formerly of Northwood, ND, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at St. Catherine North, Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at 11:00 am at Northwood Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northwood. A visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of service at the church.
Joyce was born July 18, 1934, on a farm near Finley, ND, to Alma and John Carlson. She was the oldest of six siblings. She attended grade school at Greenview Township, three and a half miles from her farm home.
In 1953, she graduated from Finley High School, before attending Mayville State College, earning a 2 year teaching certificate. She was a teacher at Forbes and Wimbleton, ND, teaching grades 1 – 8 in a one room schoolhouse. After teaching a few years, she began working as a stenographer in Grand Forks for 4 years, before marrying Elvin Trageton in 1963.
Joyce and Elvin were married for 52 years. Joyce embraced life as a farmer’s wife, and mother of three girls. Mom created a home filled with faith and laughter. It was important to her to always have a fresh cookie or doughnut to offer visiting family or friends. Her strong faith provided a foundation to raise her family and navigate trials that life presented.
Joyce was preceded in death by her loving husband, Elvin, and two brothers, Ervin Carlson and Elroy Carlson, and two sister in laws, Darlene
Carlson and Marlys Carlson, and one brother in law, Galen Larson. She is survived by three daughters, Jeannette (Mike) Repoyo, Fargo, Karen (Mark) Bohl, Normal, Illinois, Dawn (Kevin) Halvorson, El Paso Illinois, seven grandchildren, Johnathan, Amber and Allison Repoyo, Elise (Stan) Boyer, Chris (Eileen) Bohl, Kayla (Jake) Welch, Dylan Halvorson and three great-grandchildren, Sean, Ava and Everley. One sister, Ilene Larson, and two brothers, John (Evonne) Carlson and Dennis Carlson, also survive.
