Grand Forks Firefighters Quickly Contain Ammonia Leak at Simplot Potato Processing Plant, Ensuring Public Safety

GRAND FORKS, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – In a swift response, Grand Forks firefighters successfully managed an ammonia leak at the Simplot potato processing plant on Friday night. The incident, reported around 7:32 p.m., prompted an urgent dispatch to the plant located on Gateway Drive. Upon arrival, firefighters coordinated with Simplot personnel to ensure the safe evacuation of all employees.

High levels of ammonia outside the building triggered a temporary shutdown of Gateway Drive by the Grand Forks Police Department. Residents in the vicinity were advised to remain indoors for safety. Firefighters, in collaboration with Simplot staff, effectively shut down the leak and ventilated the building.

With no reported injuries to the public or emergency responders, the situation was swiftly brought under control. Grand Forks Fire deployed two Hazmat apparatuses, three engines, two command vehicles, and 18 personnel to address the incident.

This successful response underscores the importance of coordinated efforts between emergency services and industrial partners in ensuring public safety during hazardous incidents.
