Grand Forks County: Man Faces Felonies After Foot Chase

GRAND FORKS COUNTY (trfnews.i234.me) — A Grand Forks man is facing new felony charges after allegedly trying to run from officers who were attempting to arrest him on outstanding warrants.

According to court documents, 44-year-old Richard H. Schulz of Grand Forks was located by police on October 4 at a residence in the 1300 block of Demers Avenue. Officers had been notified that Schulz had active warrants out of Minnesota.

When officers approached, Schulz reportedly tried to flee on foot, running through traffic on Demers Avenue. He was quickly caught but allegedly resisted arrest during the struggle.

After being detained, Schulz was found to have methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, according to investigators. He was taken into custody and transported to the Grand Forks County Correctional Center.

Schulz is now charged with felony prevention arrest and felony possession of drug paraphernalia. His case has been forwarded to the Grand Forks County State’s Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

The Grand Forks Police Department reminds residents that resisting arrest and fleeing from law enforcement can lead to enhanced charges and greater penalties.
