Glyndon Man Faces Felony DWI, Test Refusal Charges

Glyndon, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) — Edward Lewis Barbee faces two felony DWI charges in Clay County District Court.

The charges stem from an April 16, 2026, incident at a Glyndon gas station.

Prosecutors allege Barbee was under the influence of alcohol and later refused a chemical breath test.

The case is filed under court number 14-CR-26-1291.

Caller Reports Suspected Impaired Driver

According to the complaint, police were called to a gas station around 9:12 p.m.

A caller reported seeing a man who appeared heavily impaired inside the store.

The caller said the man was stumbling and tried to buy lottery tickets.

The man then returned to a vehicle that was still running, according to the complaint.

Police arrived and found a vehicle matching the caller’s description.

Investigators identified the man as Edward Lewis Barbee.

The complaint says Barbee had poor balance, slurred speech, and bloodshot, watery eyes.

Police also reported a strong smell of alcohol coming from him.

Barbee allegedly fell at one point and needed help standing again.

Police attempted to conduct field sobriety testing, according to prosecutors.

The complaint says testing stopped because officers believed continuing would be unsafe.

A preliminary breath test allegedly showed an alcohol concentration of .32.

Barbee was then arrested and taken to the Clay County Jail.

At the jail, police read Barbee the breath test advisory.

Prosecutors allege Barbee refused to provide the requested chemical breath sample.

The complaint says Barbee was later taken to detox because of his level of impairment.

Count One charges Barbee with felony chemical test refusal.

Count Two charges Barbee with felony DWI for allegedly driving while under the influence.

Prosecutors cite prior impaired-driving matters as the basis for felony enhancement.

The complaint lists earlier DWI cases in Wisconsin and license revocations in North Dakota.

Each felony count carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.

Each also carries a possible $14,000 fine.

The complaint was filed with an order of detention in Minnesota’s 7th Judicial District.
