Dilworth Stolen Phone Case Leads to Felony Charge

Dilworth (trfnews.i234.me) — Abdoulaye Harouna Maiga faces a felony receiving stolen property charge in Clay County District Court.

Prosecutors allege Maiga sold a stolen cellphone to an EcoATM machine inside the Dilworth Walmart.

The phone was valued at about $1,200, according to the criminal complaint.

The EcoATM reportedly paid $150 for the device.

The alleged offense happened on January 26, 2026.

Stolen Phone Tracked to Dilworth

Dilworth police responded after learning that a previously stolen phone had been located inside an EcoATM.

The machine was located at the Walmart store in Dilworth.

The phone’s owner was at the machine when police arrived, according to the complaint.

The owner told authorities that the phone had been stolen earlier that day in Fargo.

The theft had already been reported to Fargo police.

Investigators reported hearing an alarm coming from inside the EcoATM machine.

The phone was then retrieved from the machine.

Authorities returned the device to its owner, according to court records.

Investigators obtained information about the person who sold the phone.

The EcoATM system collects identification information during transactions.

The complaint says the machine captured a photo identification card.

It also took a live photograph of the person completing the transaction.

Police identified that person as Abdoulaye Harouna Maiga, according to prosecutors.

Transaction records showed the phone was sold on January 26.

That was the same day the owner reported the phone stolen in Fargo.

The complaint values the cellphone at approximately $1,200.

Prosecutors allege Maiga received or possessed the phone knowing it was stolen.

They alternatively allege he had reason to know the property was stolen.

The law covers receiving, possessing, transferring, buying or concealing stolen property.

Penalties are determined under Minnesota Statute 609.52.

Property valued above $1,000 and up to $5,000 can qualify for felony punishment.

The complaint lists a maximum of five years in prison.

It also lists a possible fine of up to $10,000.

The case is State of Minnesota v. Abdoulaye Harouna Maiga.
