Detroit Lakes Woman Faces Tax Charge
Detroit Lakes (trfnews.i234.me) — A Detroit Lakes woman faces two charges in Becker County District Court. The case follows a traffic stop near Detroit Lakes Middle School.
Court records say Greisy Maria Rodriguez is charged with intent to escape taxation. That count is a gross misdemeanor. She is also charged with failing to provide proof of insurance. That count is a misdemeanor.
Traffic Stop Near School
The complaint says the stop happened around 7:51 a.m. on March 18, 2026. A gray 2014 Ford Escape entered the school drop-off zone. The vehicle had no front license plate. It also had an Illinois plate on the rear.
According to the complaint, that plate was not assigned to the Ford Escape. Court records say the plate belonged to a 1980 four-door Ford. The complaint also says the plate expired in 2012. The vehicle was listed as junked.
Authorities said the Ford Escape later left the drop-off zone. The complaint says it then failed to yield to another vehicle on Eleventh Avenue. A traffic stop was then made.
Insurance And Title Allegations
Rodriguez was identified as the driver. Court records say she could not provide proof of active insurance. She told authorities she had bought the vehicle. She also said she had not yet transferred the title.
The complaint says Rodriguez provided paperwork for the vehicle. That paperwork listed 111,165 miles when she acquired it. The odometer later showed about 123,000 miles.
Court records say Rodriguez has held a Minnesota driver’s license since January 16, 2025. The complaint also notes a prior insurance violation in Pennsylvania from September 2020.
Possible Penalties
The complaint cites Minnesota Statute 168.35 for the tax-related count. That charge carries a maximum penalty of one year in jail. It also carries a possible $3,000 fine.
The insurance count cites Minnesota Statute 169.791. That charge carries a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail. It also carries a possible $1,000 fine.
A criminal complaint is not a finding of guilt. Rodriguez is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. The case is filed in Becker County District Court under court file number 03-CR-26-909.
